As Industrialization started taking shape in the Durgapur Belt, notably Durgapur Steel Plant,DVC, MAMC and later on Alloys Steel Plant under the grand vision of the legendary Dr. B. C. Roy, a large number of Engineers came to Durgapur to participate in the Giant leap forward. In the immediate neighbourhood of Asansol, there were also C.L.M.W, Chittaranjan; IISCO, Burnpur and some other ancillary units. So, came the Engineers from Shibpur. Fresh from college,the graduate Engineers had nostalgic minds and this bond with college persisted.... the attachment towards their alma mater brought Individuals from the great B.E.College together and thus was born the SHIBPUR ENGINEERS ASSOCIATION DURGAPUR, way back in 1958. SEAD, as we call it today has seen many ups and downs , vicissitudes and is now in it's 50th year.

SEAD has gone from a very small to a very fluorishing association in the 1960s and 70s. Till end of 1990s, the activity level went down and at some point there was very low activity. But, there has been an upsurge since 2001 and once again the members and families are metting once again , more than once a year. A Souvenir is taken out every 2 years now with details of Members' names and addresses etc.
